Dizzy Odd Engine Questions

Hello guys, I was wondering if anyone has ever torn down a Vue engine to have a look inside. I am hoping the Vue Redline has a MDX motor which has a forged crank and rods opposed to a Odyssey motor which does not. I have been digging around trying to find a clear answer what Honda motor they actually used in the Vue Redline. In 2003 the MDX upgraded to a motor with 265hp (J35A5) which was really 253hp after the everything went SAE. I am pretty sure GM uses all SAE measurements so the L66 is pretty close to the MDX (J35A5). The L66 was released in 2004 (correct me if I am wrong) while the Odyssey did not get a new motor until 2005 going from J35A4 to J35A6. While the Odyssey was rated for 255hp from the factory it fell to 244whp after SAE standards. Does anyone know if all the Vue Redlines came with AWD. I am pretty sure Honda uses the forged internals for all the AWD versions of the J35. I was hoping to use the internals from a Vue engine to stroke my 3.0 Accord engine (J30A4) to a 3.3.

My '04 RL is not AWD. Good luck with your other research!

from the Pilot, & Odyssey

different websites list different numbers, either J35A3, J35A4, J35A5, J35A6, or J35A9 depending on which website you look at. Some say it is the same engine with the ridgeline, odyssey, pilot, and mdx, however i believe this is faulty information perhaps stemming from the occasional reference to the engine as "J35A" only, not the full designation. As far as I can tell, we have the J35A4 from 2003-2007.

GM states in a few reference sites that is the L66/J35A4 for 2004-2007.

2004-2007: 6Cyl 3.5L GAS, FI, VIN "4", SOHC Engine, Engine Code "J35A4", With MFI Base

Do you know if the L66 has its exhaust runners casted into the head that connect 2 precats? The J35A4 still used exhaust manifolds that connect the 3 ports from each head. This is a pictures of the J35A4 from a 02-04 Odyssey.

The "forged internals" question in regards to AWD is a myth. The engines aren't changed between FWD and AWD models, just the transfer cases attached to the transmissions...

That engine looks to be very old, probably pre-2004 if I had to guess. The cast in header was a later model thing, and all V6 Vues have it.

Has anybody been able to go and find the block casting on their vue to see if it is just J35A or J35A4? ... or possibly something else?

I was talking about the FWD Honda/Acura models that used weaker internals. Thanks to fotovue its seems that the Vue Redline uses the same connecting rods and crankshaft as the Odyssey. Which are cast iron instead of forged steel.
