Question Sirius radio and hardwired FM

I have a plug and play Sirius radio in my '02 L300. I am currently using the FM modulator in the unit. I travel into New York and Philadelphia a lot, and there are absolutley no free FM stations, and the FM broadcasts take over the Sirius signal.

I wwant to install the hardwired FM antenna, but would like to know how to get to the back of the radio.

Can anyone help??

Thanks!

Getting the radio out is pretty easy. Push the top vents down and the pull outward from the bottom of the vents, its easiest to just push it over to the side with the wiring harness still attached. The radio then comes with two simple screws on either side.

He's right. It is fairly easy to do. I just installed an FM modulator in my L, Friday. With the help of my son, it took us at the most, a half an hour.

The trick is get that bezel to pop out. Just gently push on it's sides, then carefully pry it from the dash. After that, unhook the switches from it. Use a 7mm socket to pull the radio out from the dash. DON'T pull the wiring harness out unless you have to. (you will have reset the code, time and stations if you do).

I don't know about Siruis, but the modulator works great for XM. I had the same problem trying to find an open frequency without it. Now it works like a charm.
Thanx again to DJ (OhioVueBoy) and AnotherSaturn for your help.

I was amazed how easy it was to nstall the hardwired FM.
One thing though: I now hear engine noise (whining) over the speakers...any ideas?

Big Walyz,

I'm loving Horward now that he is on Sirius, I actually never was able to listen to his show, me being in the Bible Belt. I have been drooling over the S 50 ever since they came out with one. Let us know how you like it, from what I understand it does everything an I-pod does plus sirius. Uncle Bik, how much did that FM modulator set you back.

Did you check all your grounds and make sure the modulator wire is kinked in anything?

You will love it. The built in FM modulator in the S50 is pretty strong compared to other units.

Do your self a favor. When you get your new S50, open it, power it up and activate it online. www.sirius.com Once activated, plug the S50 into your computer and download the latest (and greatest) update.

Update the unit before adding content. It may be erased when updated.

Feel free to check out www.siriusbackstage.com for some cool Sirius Chat.

Enjoy!
