All back together and we went for a rainy test drive. The new clutch is awesome. The wheel bearings are quiet. Initially the idle was very high, like 2000. After it warmed up, 1700. We did a power cycle, no change. Revved it up by jamming on the pedal hard then it was good. Maybe TPS on its way out? Or a relearn from having the battery out for a week plus? One issue that remains is we are getting a pop from the right side under hard acceleration. Not sure if it is a shock mount or swaybar issue. Also the alignment is screwed up but I'm going to make an appointment to get that fixed.

Could the hard pop be a bad dogbone mount moving with the torque of the engine under acceleration? The other thing it could be is the top mount is loose. I had that happen once; the 3 studs attaching it to the timing cover loosened off allowing the mount to shift and clunk when releasing the clutch.

Very possibly. Last night I ordered a set of pro-thane dogbone inserts. We will check the top mount. Thanks for the ideas.

Top mount is tight. I have cheap dogbones on the '99 currently. Hope that is it.

We took trottida's excellent advice and added 90 degree zerk fittings to our Mevotech control arms.

Also took Sid's excellent advice and loosened, re-torqued the control arm pivots. Popping seems much better. Got one pop backing up and turning but otherwise seems quiet. This was right after we put it back together.

Hey Waiex191 I was trying to see where Trottida mentioned the zerk fittings and can't find the post. Can you explain how you did that? I had previously installed new bushings on my LCAs and have a popping sound on the drivers side, so I have bought new Dorman LCAs. Thanks!

Check out this thread for the 90 degree zerk idea:
http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=266106

This is easy. Unscrew the old straight zerks, screw in the new 90 degree ones.

We had popping too. Then I read this thread, including Sid's linked thread.

http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=266393

We loosened up the control arm to cradle bolt, jacked up the control arm to the nominal position, and re-torqued it. No more popping. Try this before you swap them.

The new alternator we installed back in 2017 has failed. I don't recommend this brand. It made it 20,000 miles. We are putting the original back in for now and will buy a DB Electric.

Shift cable keeper broke. Fortunately my kid was just leaving for college and happened at the end of our street.

Bought one of these. It comes next week.
