2004 VUE 3.5L
2000 L-Series 3.0L Wagon
Default Dreaded Emergency Flasher button failure

I was driving on I5 in Del Mar and an 18 wheeler flips up this huge hunk of metal from his lane and it lands right in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and tried to avoid it. NOPE. Drove right over it and it got stuck under the Vue. I am still rolling but this metal is scraping the crap out of the road and screeching loud. I nailed the emergency flasher button and sure enough, it disappears into the dash, without turning on. I put on my right turn signal and scrape my way to the right curb. Turns out to be a car hood, bent over on itself. I managed to pry it free and dragged it out. Caltrans truck pulls up and thanks me for removing the debris from the highway. Quite a few folks managed to run it over as it turns out. No damage to the Vue.

The replacement bracket for the switch is no longer available from GM. I used about a quarter of a package of Permatex Plastic Welder to attach the switch back into the dash. It is very strong now. What a weak and pathetic attachment for a critical part of a vehicle. Should be a recall.

If you need to turn on the flashers, remember to do it "gently".

I agree! I got curious one day and pushed the button. To my surprise it dropped into the dash. I did the same as you with JB Weld. It is better than factory now.

Did you open up the dash to get the button out? When I got my Vue used, the button was already pushed in and I haven't made the effort to pull it out yet.

Not sure what year your Vue is but here is a pretty good visual on how to get to it. There is only 4 screws holding mine on and pressure held clips.

Good luck!

Worked for me also. I took out the mechanism, used crazy glue on the parts that broke and it's just fine for me.
When I bought the vehicle the used car dealer told me he sees that broken "on all of 'em"
