Default 2008 Saturn Aura Plug Wires/Plugs Replacement

Hello:

First time for me. Can anyone explain in DETAIL how to replace the spark plugs & wires in my 2008 Saturn Aura 3.5 engine? Can a backyard mechanic like myself do this? Dealer wants $500.00 for this service.

Thanks so much.

$500 is outrageous for R&R of plugs & wires.

Do you really need to change the plugs and wires? How many miles are on the car? How does it run?
...
Drive like you mean it, keep the rubber side down.

What? $500. Plus I just had it done on another car of mine with 114kmiles. The wires should last to 100k. Unless the manual has that as part of a scheduled maint. pending on how many miles you have

On a lot of modern sideway mounted engines you have to take the manifold off in order to get to the spark plugs. This is very labor intensive and most of that 500 bucks they want to charge you is labor. Sparkplugs these days are designed to last 100k miles or more. So unless you have some missing or other engine issues I would wait until it really needs spark plugs. Also only a handful of modern cars still use Sparkplug wires. Most of the cars now have coil on plug systems which are a lot more efficient than the old sparkplug wires and usually outlast the car unless there is an issue with one of the coils.
I am picking up my Aura tonight so I can't tell for sure but I will take a look underneath that massive plastic cover and see how difficult it is to get to the spark plugs and the overall ignition system.

You got that right. Worth every cent. The first time you use them to complete a repair you otherwise would have to take the car to the dealer for, you made back all the money you spent on them.

That is the exact car I have, 2008 Saturn Aura XE. To replace the spark plugs I need only to remove the spark plug wires from the distributor and I have plenty of access.
