Default 92 SC2 Fuel gauge - never full, never empty

I have a problem with the fuel gauge on my 93 SC2.

When filling the tank it stops short of "F". This is certainly not a major issue, and if that was all there was to it, I would not be writing this.

However, it also stops short of "E", giving the impression that there is still a couple of gallons in the tank. This came to a head recently when I put over twelve gallons of gas in a car with a nine-gallon tank!

Has anyone else come across this problem? Is there a fix?

I believe WOLFMAN posted something about this a few years ago. Something about shorting the connection leads for the gauge from somewhere in the trunk as you watch the gauge through the rear window.

Search the how-to section or shoot him a PM if you can't find it.

Not a Saturn.

yes its called quick fix to fuel gauge that constantly reads too low, or too high. its something to do with the electromagnets getting too much or too little charge. in the trunk you probe some wires to charge the magnets. its in the how-to somewhere.

EDIT: Here link http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...+Reads+too+Low

Tom/Band: Yeah, I saw that how-to before I posted here.

I'm not bothered that it does not read quite full; I can live with that. The problem for me is that it never gets to "E" - it stops about half-way between 1/4 full and "E", leaving me guessing.

If I read it correctly, Wolfman's cure will actually make things worse in this case. I suspect that I need to look into the earth connection. Sounds like there might be some resistance there.
