Default Trouble starting

2004 Saturn Vue with the 3.5 155K
When starting the vehicle cold, it turns over and over and sputters for about four seconds and finally starts.
Once warm the vehicle starts perfect and runs perfectly otherwise.
Any pointers/suggestions?

2003 VUE 2.2L
Default Re: Trouble starting

Try this:

1) turn the key to ignition for about 5 seconds, (do not try to start).

2) Turn the key OFF for about three seconds.

Repeat this sequence three times, then try to start. Report back what happens...

Mad Re: Trouble starting

I'm guessing OP solved the problem or is using workaround provided by waiter21 but this thread may show up in future searches so I'll add my 2 cents.

At one time I took care of four family Vue's - 05, 06 and two 07 - all with 3.5 - but fuel tank is similar to all years except 02 and 03 which IIRC had external fuel filters.

I replaced a fuel pump on 07 Vue because the tank check valve stopped checking and let fuel pressure bleed back into tank soon after engine shut down. This led to long crank times and either no or sputtering starts.

The mostly complete story is in following thread but you can fast forward to important information in post 8 of the thread:

http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=216401

IMPORTANT FACT: I've recently noted same fuel pump check valve problem on two other family Vue's - 05 which just rolled over 100,000 miles and 06 with 165,000 miles.

I really hated to drop tanks to change pumps (especially on 05 with AWD) so I tried adding Chevron Techron to fuel tank for a couple of cycles and the check valves in both tanks came back to life!

I'd used Techron in the past to fix a erratic fuel quantity problem so hoped it might lubricate whatever mechanical parts and pieces resided in the check valve and it appears to have done so.

FWIW - I used Techron but I imagine there's any number of fuel tank additives that could get good results.
