A quick update. There's been some delays in the purchase of the OPC bumper! A seller on ebay (prowrapper) made a shipping label., but failed to ship for over a month!...sigh. So I had to cancel, and I'm back on the search.

Found a few potential places (ckctuning) and frbodystyling.com, who are willing to ship, and with reasonable times, but I'm still looking for alternatives.

Then there's originalcarparts.com that have the OEM bumper, but I refuse to pay 900+ euros for a bumper for a car that's not worth $2k in the current condition. But, that's the company name, if anybody wishes to use them.

I'm begging UK sellers to ship me their used bumpers now. I talk to them sweetly, saying good things about their queen, and how great their country, and women are (even though I don't like UK, nor their women), so hopefully this will convince them to ship to me.

I'll keep you posted. I promised I'd make a tutorial on how to fit a OPC bumper in a 5d hatch. I haven't given up!

Default Re: Hello! New Astra owner - upgrading to OPC

Well, a week ago I placed an order for the OPC bumper from a different source www.frbodystyling.com. I went through several stores before reaching to these guys in Portugal. Maxon Design has the bumper, but shipping is outrageous at 900 bucks! ECS tuning, which is part of Maxon in the US, has it, but won't deliver until november! Originalcarparts also has it, but I' placed an order for an Opel emblem, and so far I'm not impressed with their delivery times, they haven't dispatch yet after two weeks.

The bumper from frsbodystyling was more pricey, but not too much. They gave me a 10 percent off, and communication has been good so far. They order to build, so there's a slight delay from building to shipping. I like they are quick to respond.

I'll report back when I get some news from them.

Finding an OPC bumper has been the most frustrating part of this endeavor thus far.

On the good news, the front bumper support kit from the 3dr hatch, is in Concord through customs.
I found a good seller on ebay who shipped it quickly, and reliably. If anyone of you need to buy this support bracket to convert to an OPC bumper, the seller's store is "gfnparts", and he's got 100% positive feedback. The part you need is "13110340".

I'm still looking for rims. Tried to source three more Aura rims at the pull-a-part in two different locations, but didn't find any. However, I found a seller who has 18" pentas for cheap, but he won't ship to Alabama from Texas. So, I'm considering doing the massive 10 hour trip to TX, unless I get something else.

Joe (member JFS), kindly sent me the sway bar kits, and I'm excited to try them out soon. Great guy!

Ok, this is all for now.

Got one of the side skirts painted, and clear coated lastnight. These are not XP or OPC skirts, unfortunately, but a close match. I may sell these soon if I can source someone to ship me the original skirts.

Prepped, then primed, based coated in Star Silver Metallic (782J), and lastly, three coats of SprayMax 2k clear. It's not perfect though, but looks ok from 3 meters away.

A few more updates.

Finally received the opel emblem this week! It looks great on the Astra's back. I also got the side skirts installed. Will post a pic later.

-I did get all 4 Aura rims also, and been sanding the rims out to bring back the color. These look fantastic when cleaned up.

-The OPC/XP spoiler arrived in Spain, and my brother will be sending it over to the US soon. Thankfully, it's already painted.

Let's see, what else. polished the headlights. If you have projectors, I highly recommend this. It made a huge difference in night visibility. Added bonus, can finally blind those drivers who forget to switch their high beam off!
Whereas before they would ignore me, now I can opelize them into oblivion - muhahaha!

-Got the valve cover/PCV replaced lastnight. Took about an hour.

Next will be installing "JFS" sway bars, and finishing off painting the roof.

Time for an update. I finally got the bumper center piece part. It took well over a month to arrive, but it's here. I'm still waiting on the bumper, I can't believe how slow overseas shipping has become with this pandemic.

And here's a few pics of the Astra. I'm working on the coast currently and planning a visit to Colorado hopefully soon. Is there anybody living in CO, or on the way to CO?

Alright, bumper arrived today! A bit banged up on the edges, but could be fixed since it's fiberglass. Next thing is to get the bumper painted, and centersuport installed. I may do without a grille in the meantime until I get one from overseas.

I think I can install the bumper without having the grille on. I think...

Those wheels look great. Remind me of the 18" r32 aristo wheels that comes on the VWs

Thanks man. I had to look at the Aristo wheels. What a cool car that R32 is! They definitively look alike.

The nice thing about these Saturn Aura rims it's they are very cheap, and easily available. I got them all four for less than $200.

r32 was a fantastic car for its time. VR6 AWD....or i think they had an optional 2.0T. I've seen a few people boost the vr6 to make 500-600 awd in a car that light. It screams to say the least.

If I end up keeping my Astra for a long haul, I might look into getting some Aura rims. I just bought tires for my 17" rims so I'm gonna have these wheels for another 50k miles or about 2 years for me

Good luck with the build. Its looking fantasitc.

Default Re: Hello! New Astra owner - upgrading to OPC

It's been a while since my last update.

Got a few more upgrades on the way here, and some already installed. I ordered a diesel snorkel part 55351756 (same as the VXR but cheaper!) to de-restrict the air intake flow and I'll be ordering the hose (part 55558369). This together with my high flow cat 200 catalytic should start waking the Astra more.

I also did a few style upgrades. Got the SRi lower rear bumper lip installed (will post a pic later). Found out the hard way it's not not a plug and play setup. Rear euro bumpers for the 5dr are narrower, so I had to cut a section in two to make it fit!

Ideally you want a euro bumper but I'd have had to get the euro shock bar. While it's not perfect up close, it looks far better than the ugly stock bumper.

Next will be getting a dual tip exhaust and I have a few models in mind (magnaflow). I don't want something loud or obnoxious, but just a tad louder.

Anyway, I also got the SRi spoiler for a good deal from a lady in the UK. It was a brand new unit together with installation manuals and the whole nineyards. This will be installed next.

This is what it will look like when finished. This isn't my car, but it's a photoshopped version of a UK Astra where I photoshopped my wheels onto and the custom paint work I'm doing on it currently. I'm painting it to look like the Peugeot 308 Gti which I found it to be cool (to me at least).

I'm also debating if I'm going to install my VXR fiberglass bumper or sell it, and get an ABS plastic one from abroad.

Still so much to do, including maintenance stuff! So progress is going slow as I'm also working on modding and selling my other car (e36 bmw).

Pics of the SRi top spoiler, and bottom rear bumper lip with my custom "Peugeot 308 GTI" peelable rattle can paint job.

I'm thinking of removing the paint to reveal the lip and spoiler better, but not sure, I kinda like it.
