Default Your Other Car

I'm bored so I figured I would make a couple threads to learn about the other users here.

I've noticed a lot of us, all have a second car, either a classic, or another fun car, or even a work beater, and the little Saturn we own always ends up being the daily driver.

My other car is a 1987 Volkswagen Scirocco 16V. It's a project car but it runs and drives really well. I'm fixing it up to take to euro shows over the summer.

I've gotten pretty deep in to the euro-trash scene lately. I stick with Saturn because they make perfect everyday cars; Parts are cheap; Saturns are easy to fix; and they are highly reliable. VW leaves a little to be desired on the reliability front.

My wife drives our 2012 GMC Acadia. 7 year bumper to bumper, so the only thing I do on it is 5k Castrol Syn OCIs and tire rotations. The Saturn keeps me busy enough.

2000 BMW M Roadster with the S52 -- This car is the complete opposite to the Saturn when it comes to ease of working on it. The straight 6 is crammed into a some-what small engine bay. To drop the alternator, power steering and ABS need to be removed, for example.

My 95 sl2 is in my garage right now troubleshooting a bad tranny leak.
So right now I'm daily driving a 98 chrysler cirrus which is a pita when in comes to maintenance. For example just to change the rear spark plugs you have to take off the top of the intake manifold. And the battery is located behind the drivers side wheel. It's got the mitisibishi v6 crammed into it , would much rather have the 4 cylinder turbo edition.

The saturn sure handles quite a bit better than this boat cirrus. Better than any car I've ever owned. It's fun for deliveries wheelin into tight spaces and being small and peppy.
The cirrus wins though on highway cruising.

My current dd is an IS300 I've had since new. Also have an LS400 and a 1977 Celica project car. And a CBR600 that I wrecked a few summers ago and haven't gotten around to fixing.

Saturn is daily driver
When I need a giant 7000-pound pig, I drive the '01 F-350 4x4 Powerstroke.

’78 Cutlass parked. Anybody want to buy it?
It would be perfect as a body for a 1990s Corvette/Camero engine. It’s perfectly derivable right now. Engine stored full of oil to where it ran out the filler tube. Pull the exhaust and rinse out the Cadillac converter and ready to go…more or less. I’ve kept the brakes bled and the A/C charged. Boat drier inside with humidistat.

’86 ZuZu TurboDiesel parked, except when I use it for a lawn tractor to move/pull things. I used it for around town because it gets hot enough it’s not short-trip engine abuse. …but hooked the bumped of some accostingnut in a Chevy pick-up. He was a good liar and I ended up handcuffed and "processed" in the local holding cell and had to pay $600 to stay out of anger management re-education camp. (Convenient Sargent Stadanko target for the young cop doing high school parking lot duty: My driver's licencse was out-of-town, but lived here most all my life) Insurance went up, so I parked it and got a new insurance company. All that with an 85HP diesel**. I am rather proud of myself ...and still a little bit perturbed

**that's 85HP when the turbo's wound up. Otherwise, I think it's 15HP.
...
Competition Clutch 10Lb. Flywheel. 14 stalls to date (and loving it).
Oil use is 1 ounce per 100 miles with ~230,000 miles on the engine

My "daily driver" lately has been a Gillig diesel-electric hybrid (city bus). Latest acquisition -- '85 F250 4x4 6.9 IH N/A diesel, Borg (you will be assimilated!) T19 4-speed:

Body is crispy (but cut clean), frame is _solid_ (and now protected). I can convert to manual glow plug control in about five minutes. Even the voltage regulator is mechanical. EMP? Pole shift? It'll run. $30 topper; complimentary Red Green graphics.

Too lazy to re-post the others: http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...3&postcount=53

2013 Mazda 3 5-door. I'm planning to do a good bit of road tripping when vacation allows. I'm guessing the Saturn could still make these trips, but have more confidence in a new car.

I'm guess 2/3 of my driving is still in the Saturn. I drive the Mazda from time to time to make sure I didn't get a lemon. I also want to wear the Saturn out while it still runs well.

The 94 SL2 is my daily driver. 1992 Miata is my HPDE and summer fun car. 1990 Volvo 240DL I now let my kid drive and use for interstate travel. Two old motorcyles, just to keep it interesting.

i technically dont have a saturn yet (give it a couple of weeks), but ill chime in anyway. my fun car is an 02 camaro z28 (manual trans, the way it should be). its more or less stock at this point, since its also my bad weather vehicle until i get that saturn. that will likely change. my daily driver is a 95 kawasaki ninja 500. its a bit of a pos, but its mine. when i got it, i took it apart, painted the frame red, plastics flat black. looks much meaner than a 500 should, and is ever so much fun. 50mpg doesnt hurt either.
