Default holes

i have a 2001 sc2. when you open up the hood, right next to the hood hinges on both sides there is a hole that has tape over it. they are small holes like for a bolt or something why are they covered with tape? if the tape comes off, will i get leaks into the car?

OH MY GOD, DON'T EVER TOUCH THOSE!

Naw, just kidding! Doesn't look like anything really weird would happen if you removed the tape, but why? Do you want to use them for something?

I would think it'd be good to keep water out if they felt need to tape it...

the holes are right next to the hood hinges (the hinge part that bolts to the car, not the hood) they have black tape over them.

but if the tape is meant to seal them off, why just use tape which would for sure peel off like mine is starting to do slowly? why not use a rubber grommet or a like item?

Last time I detailed my engine I accidently put a finger through one of those. I just used some goo-gone and got it completely off. I will be replacing it with a more robust plug.

If they're the ones im thinking of (about 1.5'x3' oval) then they should be exposed, but covered with a foam piece and mesh.

no, those are those vents. those also came off my car, but i re-glued them. the holes i'm talking about are just small holes around maybe 1/4" or so...

Mine are in the same shape. Looks like the tape is beginning to peel also. I don't think water gets to that area (at least they don't look like they've ever gotten wet to me). I just figure that at some point, there was going to be tubes or something going through there for something I haven't thought of yet. Maybe a super-soaker windshield washer sort of thingie?

i'm sure they would get wet. you can see them when the hood is closed between the hood & windshield. especially when you wash your car. what's interesting is i e-mailed saturn & the dealership & nobody seems to know what they are for, & some don't even know what i'm talking about....
