Default Ignition switch replacement

Does anyone know if dropping the steering column will make enough room to unscrew and remove the switch?

Your steer column may have a 'tilt' feature, of some use.

On different model years, I've moved the 'tilt' down, loosened the
longish bolts supporting the column, and even dropped the steer wheel
onto the forward edge of the front seat (do not drop steer wheel onto
front seat!).

The first impediment to removing the IgSw, is removal of the plastic
cover of the column in the area of the IgSw and the "combination
switch" which incorporates signaling, headlight dimming, hazard lights,
and wiper activation.

One needs a small/thin nut driver, something like 4.5mm or 5.5 mm....
to remove the plastic cover. The bolts supporting the column are accessed
from below, negotiating wire harnesses, etc.

I already removed the plastic covers and tilted the steering wheel i just want to know if dropping the steering column lower would make it easier to remove the ignition switch bolts

Are you talking about the screws that hold the actual electric switch to the lock cylinder, or the security bolts that hold the lock cylinder to the steering column? I've done both and I did not drop the steering column.

You should be able to just take them out.
