Default 1998 sc2 tach issues

Ok so here I am again .. But I got a different tach that atleast reads something ... Now I have a autometer model number 2300 tach for my pure stock car ... I called autometer and they assured me that it will work and told me pin 2 " white wire" on the light blue connector .. I tried that and have the tach set to 4 cyl ... And it only reads half the rpm straight from the pcm ... What is going on here ???? I cant for the life of me figure this out .. Does anyone have any better / any info at ill that can help me ??? Any help is much appreciated !!!!

While I don't personally know much about how the aftermarket gauges/ECUs work with these cars, I have heard that getting tach reading can be a pain. Hopefully someone else can chime in but I remember hearing you have to double the cylinder count in software (and probably some other things) for it to work. Something to do with the waste spark system making things tricky I think.

Well, that isn't going to work! I peeked at the (poor) literature for the 2300 on their web-site. It is only for 4, 6, and 8 cylinder engines. More important, it is only for single-coil engines with a distributor. It looks like the Autometer #9117 "Tach Adapter" can mate that to the Saturn wasted-spark ignition.
