Default 1999 SL2 rear brake wear

1999 SL2 136,000 miles

I just pulled the rear drums on my 99 sl2 preparing to do a complete brake job. The rears have never been replaced. Upon inspecting the shoes there seems to be only slight wear to them. The leading end of each shoe is slightly thinner than the trailing end but even the thinnest part is thicker than the new shoes I just bought from Auto Zone. With 136,000 miles I would expect the shoes to be toast. (I pull the drums every year and inspect) Is this normal? Do SL2 rear brakes last this many miles? My front disc brakes are ready for change every 32000 miles or so. I'm ready to clean, lube and put things back together until next year.

The fronts do the majority of the braking on our cars, as with most FWD cars. And the rear drum shoes last remarkably long. He _might_ have done them by now, but the last time we heard from member Luke on the topic, at aprx. 500,000 miles, he was still on his original rear shoes.

And didn't I read somewhere about the rears not self-adjusting properly, which would definitely keep them from wearing...

You might want to check to make sure the self adjusters are free and that the arms for them are in good shape and not bent. But if those are good and your e-brake works then I wouldn't worry about it.
