Thumbs Up SKY to go into Production as version of the Solstice!

Good news for Saturnfans...

Reuters / December 09, 2002

DETROIT -- General Motors out to prove it can build an affordable sports car, will announce early next year that it will produce the Pontiac Solstice, a two-seater that won design awards as a concept vehicle this year, company officials said Monday.

GM is also expected to build a Buick and a Saturn model derived from the small sports car, part of Vice Chairman Robert Lutz's efforts to add excitement to the company's car lineup, which has been criticized for being too bland

Automotive analysts said they expect GM to target sales of 20,000 to 35,000 Solstices a year and perhaps 15,000 to 30,000 of the Saturn Sky. The Bengal is expected to sell in low volumes, perhaps around 10,000, they said.
Given that the Alpha car for the platform is going to be the Solstice, that will likely mean the SKY will be more sporty, and less "VW Cabriolet for girls" ....well, we can only hope, right? If nothing else, the underachieving 180HP motor will either be replaced outright with the Solstice's 240HP version, or give Saturn owners a built in upgrade solution!

And just maybe, someone will kill that picture frame grille!

That'll make the wife happy. She loves that SKY concept. Guess my coupe will get designated as the "family car"!

1993 SC2

THe Solstice concept was rear drive, if I'm not mistaken. yay! a Saturn with a truly American layout! Swap in a LS1 or something somehow if it'd fit. (floorpans would need modification I'm quite sure)

If anyone wanted to swap in a LS1 with RWD setup in a 1st gen (or any Satty I think) it's have to be where the console is, not unlike the early funny cars from the late 1960s. That'd cost a lot to do, more than I want and an already small car would be a very, very small car.
Then: 1993SC2m
Now: 1996 Jeep XJ, 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 650

i've seen three ford focuses with v8 rwd swaps. one had a 302 crate motor, the second had the 4.6L dohc from the 1999-2001 cobra, and third the 4.6L dohc supercharged from the 2003 cobra in it. so... a saturn coupe with an ls1 from a f-body or vette couldn't be that hard to do bring money. that would make a wicked street mod car for scca solo ii.
