Local Craigslist - RED over SILVER Saturn...

Hey,

I saw this on the local craigslist. It is a red saturn with silver on the bottom part. Isn't that a two-tone? I remember reading that the two-tones are kinda rare, so I wanted to let you all know if anyone was interested in it.

Yes..the two tones are getting rare, more so by the day.

$450 eh? Too bad I don't have the extra cash laying around. They did these on the Sport Coupes in the early 92/93? model year as well. I've seen a few of the Sport Coupes in the Red/Grey combo. There is another member here who has a sedan that is the black/grey combo.

Yes, it is a nice find. I just bought my '99 SL2 right before Christmas. We can't afford another one. Plus, we have two project cars already (1969 MGB, and 1980 MGB) that are my husband's and he wants to restore them. We don't need anymore projects! LOL

Hopefully someone can snatch it up. I just saw it and thought, wow, a two-tone! I have been reading these boards every day, trying to learn about Saturns, etc. I am up to page 434, I think (posts from 2006!) and I saw several posts about two-tones and that they are hard to find. Just thought I would share, if anyone was interested in it.

I guess he doesn't know the difference. Is it an SL2? It has painted bumpers. I am still learning about the differences, etc.

Painted bumpers and aluminum wheels mean it's an SL2, assuming it is all factory.

Thanks for the info, Uzzy. Appreciate it. I know most people seem to want coupes with stick shift. This is a 4 door but it IS a stick shift, so maybe someone will want it. I wonder how "rare" the two-tone sedans are. Is it just two-tone coupes that are rare, or any two-tone?

It could be a really pretty car if it was fixed and cleaned up. I like the red!! That's my favorite color. But, I am very happy with my gold SL2. It is so comfortable to drive and looks good for an almost 11 year old car. It's an automatic though, which is fine by me, as I have knee problems and the clutch would tear my knee up using it all the time.

Fixed. Alloy wheels were optional on SOHC and DOHC cars; just MUCH more commonly found on DOHCs.

But yeah, it's an SL2; I don't think there were any SOHC two-tones (unless you consider the unpainted charcoal bumper color a "tone" ).

Saturn used the two tone option on the 1991 - 1993 model year Saturns. It was available on the SL2 in silver/grey and medium red/silver and available on the SC2 as silver/grey and red/silver.

I have the production numbers written down somewhere, but the silver/grey combo was the most popular. I'm wanting to say the medium red/silver production number was around 1,400 from 1991-1993.

I have a 1992 medium red/silver SL2 like that I'm collecting. It's stored in my garage now, and has all the options available for that year except for the teardrop alloy wheels (mine has the geartooth). It only gets driven once a week in the summer and I keep it stored during the winter.

An interesting item is that the factory two tone Saturns actually had 2 piece door panels! So, instead of 1 panel, there is an "upper" and "lower" panel.
