LOL. The really surprising part is that there were 8 bids when I just checked....topping out at about $3500. That thing just isn't worth a whole lot...a 19 year old economy car doesn't command much in the collector's market. I doubt someone with an original Vega with 500 miles on it would be able to get more than a couple of grand too.

Wake me up when it's over.

Ummm since 1991... The 91 SPORT COUPES were the only 91 model year cars that came with DOHC Engines.

The Sedans were released in both SOHC and DOHC engines.

But yes Uzzy; this seller has been trying to sell this car since the beginning of the year at least. I think I remember first seeing this car on Ebay in March of this year...

No, that is not a cold air intake. This engine is all factory. That is how the SOHC engines were designed. The Air Filter is in the black box that is behind the engine. If you notice the two black bolts that are sticking out of the air filter box behind the engine, one has to take the large plastic "screws" out then undo the black metal tabs that surround this box to change the air filter. This is the same setup on my 94 SC1. The snorkel goes down in front of the battery where the Air Sensor is attached at the front, just like it is on a DOHC.

Oh, okay. Started to say, that whole design kept throwing me off.. D: Was this the same configuration for the autotragic transaxles?

wonder why they didn't try this with the DOHC....

SOHC automatics.

The DOHC engine had to have someplace for the Throttle Body. The only logic way in design was to move the Air Filter to the front of the Battery.

Keep in mind that SOHC engines prior to 95 were TBI (Throttle Body Injection). IIRC: SOHC engines and DOHC? -- 95 and after was MPFI (Multi Port Fuel Injection).

As a member of both this forum and the H-body(Vega and Monza) forum, I'm offended by VUEmaniac's comment about the value of a Vega in similar shape. Low-mile(under 10,000) Cosworth Vegas regularly sell in the $8000-$12,000 range, and just in the last year there was a showroom condition 77 Vega GT with 69 miles on it listed on ebay with a $16,900 reserve, and a 71 Vega GT with 741 miles on Craigslist for $13,500. I do not believe that either met reserve, but both did eventually sell for somewhere between $7500 and $10,000.
if you doubt the popularity of the lowly Vega, go to a drag race; it there are 200 hard-core drag only cars there, two or three will be highly modified Vegas.

I remember the Cosworths. I had a '73 GT Wagon, 4-spd manual with posi-rear - loved that car! It was a sad day when my wife got rear-ended and the car was totaled. And too bad GM's failed engine experiment left the Vega with its infamous reputation.

The 91 model year didn't have an upper motor mount on the passenger side. That was added as an improvement to the 92 and beyond model years.

There were issues with Coolant and there were approx. 1500? or maybe 15,000? or so; maybe more 91 model year cars that were returned to the factory because it was some type of factory defect with the coolant and the engine block.

In 2016; this car; if it is still around will be eligible for historical plates. Any car that is 25 years old or older on the road is eligible for historical plates. In another couple of years; the first couple of model years of S-Series cars may well be Collector cars because of how Saturn was a "Different kind of car".... you never know.

Everyone scoffed at the Corvair when Chevy built that car back in the day, as well as people making comments about Vegas in this thread....but now if you are able to FIND one and you really liked the cars when they were out....they can fetch a hefty price in car collector circles.

As strange and quirky as it may sound; while everyone jokes about the S-Series one day being a collector car....it may happen sooner than you think.

The question is, will this '91 car, presuming it's not driven, be worth as much 20 years from now as a pristine '71 Vega is today? No one can say, just as no one, 20 years ago, could have said whether a '71 Vega would sell for $10,000 today.

Wow it just doesn't seem right to see one that clean under the hood. I wish i had money to buy it and find out what it was like to take the suspension apart without everything being rusted.

Offended? LOL

Comparing a Cosworth Vega to a base SL1 is just silly. Even when they were new, the Cosworth was rare and each engine was hand built. I think only a few thousand were made and they were only slightly cheaper than a base 'vette at the time. A bone stock base vega, which is more in line with the car being discussed here, is probably only worth a couple of thousand if it is in pristine condition (good luck finding one).

What's next? Comparing a late-70's 4-banger Mustang to a 67 Shelby GT500?

I remember seeing it on eBay several months ago and do not recall how high the bidding went but it was perhaps 5 or 6K. I love the wagon and if it was a wagon I would surly have won the bid. I have yet to find a car I like better, plastic body parts and the GM brand was the first thing to attract me in the early 90's, still my only "new" car. Yes I have to keep my eye open on the chassis for hidden rust, but my SW2 still has that glossy finish that I only seem to see on the gold ones. I love the fit and feel of my Saturn and now I see this site is just what I have been looking for.
Thanks all.

there's a cosworth vega sitting in a garage by us. it's a former tire place that's now closed. it's white with aluminum wheels & a black interior. it looks mint. don't know who owns it nor did i ever see it run, it just sits there.... we had a 1972 vega wagon & it lasted us 10 years then it fell apart before our eyes. the engine was a problem with it's scored cylinder walls & head gasket problems.

It was around $8000 on one of the previous auctions if I remember the discussions about it correctly.
