Hello everyone!

I've been lurking here for a few months, and finally decided it was time to join! I've learned so many things from you guys already, and I look forward to learning even more in the next few months!

My name is Nicole...I'm 25 and I am in the Columbus, Ohio area...I bought a '93 Saturn Sc2 last November. I bought the car for $500. I decided to go ahead and buy it even though it did not run at the time. I was looking for a cheap but reliable car to use as my daily driver/winter beater.

I bought a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe last summer, and I did not want to be driving that beast in the winter! (And I didn't want to buy 19' winter tires!) These are the first two cars I have owned with manual transmissions, and this was the first winter driving a manual transmission car. I didn't want to be driving a rear-wheel drive manual in the snow

So the Saturn was the solution. The timing chain had slipped and just needed to be fixed. So that was the first thing that was done to it, along with a coolant flush. That got me pretty much through the winter up until one of the tie rods broke in March. So I went to town and started fixing a number of problems that were wrong with the Sc2...

Here is what has been accomplished so far...

Winter 09

-Timing chain and all components
-Water pump
-Coolant flush


Spring 10

-Odometer gears
-Lowering springs
-Struts/Mounts all around
-Tie rods
-Engine mount inserts
-Outer control arms
-Summer tires
-New brakes and rotors all around
-New rear calipers

I also bought a set of Winter tires for this winter...


The next things I plan on doing...

-LED bulbs in my instrument panel (ordered these yesterday)
-Installing the intake I've had for two months now...
-Fixing the interior drivers door panel...It's falling off...
-Fixing the leaks on my drivers door and sunroof
-New fabric for the headliner/sunvisors
-Short shifter (tired of rowing a boat when shifting, lol)
-Fog lights
-Eventually new power steering pump
-Eventually doing something about the gas gauge...It's shady and I don't trust it...
-FULL interior and exterior detail! It desperately needs to see a clay bar and good coat of wax and polish.


I feel like I have rescued this car...She was in bad shape when I bought her...The engine and transmission seem to be strong, so I am hoping she will last me for quite a few miles to come



Things I have done to my Genesis Coupe

-Magnaflow exhaust system
-InJen CAI
-3000k HID fog lights


Things I will be doing this spring/summer...

-Lowering springs
-Cat delete pipes
-PowerAxel ECU reflash
-Powder coating my wheels either bronze or gold...not sure yet...
-Possibly new summer tires

Are you doing all this work yourself? I have two daughters who I can't even get to check the oil level in their cars. Let me be the first to commend you on your knowledge, car wise.

All the work that has been done, my old roommate did for me...I could have figured out how to do everything, but I probably wouldn't have touched the timing chain or components...

As for the future stuff...It will be done by yours truly

I did however, install the exhaust system on my Genesis all by myself! (I am really proud of myself for it, too!) I needed a bit of help with the last two bolts because I couldn't get the socket to fit and I couldn't figure out why...But other than that, I figured it out all on my own

Welcome! I'm two hours south of you in Cincinnati. If you ever need any help on your car let me know. I have a brother who lives in Columbus (Dublin/Worthington); so I'm familiar with some parts of C-Bus.

It's the satisfaction of knowing you fixed it yourself. That's what counts.

Welcome to the forums... I've been on here since Jan.. and I have received lots of help.. a lot of members on here are really helpful and know what their talking about.

I live northeast of Cincy... I go through Columbus a couple times a year for vacation.. and even stayed there for a concert once.

Welcome from Niagara! Sounds like you had a lot of fun diving-in under the hood. But does your SC2 burn any oil?

Yes, it does...I have to add about a quart every week...If I drive it a lot, sometimes just over a quart...A small price to pay in my eyes.

Welcome from Long Island New York! That is great you do most of your own work. I have a 2007 Ion 2, my brother has a 1995 SL1 still running, and my mom has 2006 VUE AWD. All look brand new with the poly panels.

Love the car! I have a white trunk panel that I bought for a project that never happend. I was going to back-light the saturn logo. And I would still like to try it. But I sold my '92 SC Saturn a few years ago.

I was going to pour a clear material behind the logo and dremel out the saturn logo. And then throw in an LED light behind it. I got hung up on the color being different than my red car... IF you are interested in the parts, PM me. I am in northern Columbus. I will sell the panel and light to you for $35.

I think, the best thing that you can do is to learn about car repairs on a car that doesn't have to be driven everyday. And that way you can drive to get parts in the middle of the project, if needed. And YOU have taken-on some major projects!

It's not made by GM. Or even Chrysler or Ford. The Genesis is pretty impressive, though. The coupe's styling isn't that great (looks like it would been really cool in 2002) but what's under the skin is pretty darn good, even if it is Korean.

Well I also went Saturn for daily and RWD for weekend fun just a bit different (and also in ohio). I have a miata for fun and Astra for commuting.

Glad to see you are keeping an old SC2 alive. Those are really neat cars. Don't think I could deal with it. I got really tired of feeding an SL2 oil all through college only coming back to a GM product now in the Astra. Probably needs a rebuild at your consumption but can get pretty far with just keeping up with it. I gave up at a quart every 75 miles, but it went a good while with just one every fill up before that.

The genesis looks like fun. I have yet to drive one myself but Hyundai has been slowly bringing out much better products.

Wow! A quart every 75 miles? I don't think I would have done that for very long, either. How long did you drive the car before it got that bad?

The genesis is so much fun to drive...I still have a bit of trouble with the clutch at times, but I am getting much, much better. I want to go take some drifting lessons this summer

And when I get the ECU reflash/tune, I want to hit up the dyno to see what it really is putting out. And also the track, just for fun
