2000 SC2
Question Stereo Cassette & CD

Hello everyone. I'm on the verge of buying a 2000 SC2 with all the options but leather and automatic (gotta have the 5 speed ). I do have a question about the audio system, though. It has the cassette and CD combo stereo. Is this model better than the plain CD player? Does it have more wattage? Features?

Any information would be helpful. I'm curious.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it has more features:
Namely that you can play both CDs and Cassettes.

i wouldnt spend the extra 400 i think for that option and i would go and get an aftermarket deck a really nice one mosfet 50x4 with all the toys remote, detach deck etc.. for under 250 (canadian) but thats what i would do i would just keept he factory plain jane deck and buy an aftermarket all yougot to do is buy a few adapters (2 one for antenna and 1 for wire harness instead of splicing it all)

Thanks for your replies. Especially you, Lex. I never would have thought that a CD & cassette combo player would play both CDs and cassettes! Does anyone know if there is a difference in wattage? By the way, the stereo is already in the car, I'm just curious about it.

I don't know about the CD/Cassette combo, but mine came with the uplevel CD stereo. Which meant higher wattage (I think). I know for sure it had two way speakers, cause I replaced them all. When I pulled them out, I was surprised to see two ways in a factory system.

It's a much better unit, not just has the cassette.

Swapped one in my 2000 LS that came with just the CD. Even with the same speakers, the difference in sound quality was easy to hear.

It may not sound like much of an increase (10 watts per channel up to 12 watts per channel for the Advanced Audio), but it sounds great... much better than the stardard CD player. One option to think about, keep the head unit, and get better speakers. Seriously. I've done it, and I keep a great Stock look inside, but have incredble sound coming from the stereo (which is made by Panasonic indirectly, btw)

There is a big difference between the 2 on quality of sound. I had the dual one in my 2001 SC2 but I did test an SC2 before I purchased mine that just had the cd and the dual deck is much better

I have never used the cassette part of my deck. I don't even remember the last tape I owned.

I use the cassette part all the time, but just for the tape adaptor to link in the mp3 player. I may get one of those FM wireless links, but the sound quality and battery life seem a bit questionable.

Wow, that's great to know. I was at Saturn of Wichita East today and we had to do a search to find the car I wanted. We went on a GM auction for lease returns and found one in Grass Lake, Michigan. It's now on it's way! I'm very excited about it. It will be a good upgrade from my 1994 SW2.

By the way, what I found was a 2000 SC2 with manual, but all the other options.

I have found that the difference is night and day in the quality with the Advanced Audio system in my 2002 LW300 compared to the standard system in my 2000 LW1.

I do question Saturn's ethics in their pricing for the Advanced Audio system. It costs $520. and $890. Canadian respectively for the Audio 1 & 2 packages on the 2003 L Series. Let's think about this for a moment. Is the Audio 1 & 2 package not an upgrade? If so, let's look at the differences and then let's take a long hard look at the price.

Quite a jump for what is really an upgrade.

I seriously believe that my LW300 will be our last Saturn due to Saturn's outrageous pricing, at least for Canadians.

Yeah, I had the uplevel CD player in mine when I bought it. Replaced it with an aftermarket deck for $200.
Get this: I sold the Saturn CD player on Ebay for $212!!!
Yowza!

**off the thread topic, but related**

I do. The Power Station was what it was called I believe, the one with that Robert Palmer guy singing.
