Default Whereto mount amplifier in cargo area?

My order from Crutchfield is in and I'm excited to hook up my new amplifier (stereo and speakers are all aftermarket). I've figured out where I need to run my cables but where I'm stuck is where to mount the amplifier.

I do use the cargo area with seats down from time to time so back-of-seat mounting is out of the question.

There is a spot just behind the back seats, in the spare tire well that might work. But my amp (Alpine MRV-F300) might be a bit to big for that. Not sure.

Where have ya'll mounted your amplifiers and any tricks I should know?

If you still have the mini spare there's enough room in there to put a small amplifier between the cover up pad and the tire. Alternatively you can cut up the foam a bit and mount it there.

What do I screw the amp onto? Do I need to built a mount or something? I don't want to mount it directly onto the metal floor - the same place I'm grounding it.

Mine is mounted between the spare and the back seat under the carpet. Not sure if your amp will fit there but here are some pictures of my install for a JL Audio 10W3. I used a few small strips of MDF to isolate the amp from the floor and allow airflow. BE CAREFUL. The gas tank is close to that area.

Ryan, thanks for the post with the photos. That helps. I've been digging around my engine compartment and found two ways trhough the firewall. One is a small single entry that already has a single red cable running through it. This one I can access if needed.

The other, with the massive cable bundle, I can't figure out how to access it from inside the cabin. I've unbolted the cover under the dashboard but everything behind it is covered up and appears the gray covering is bolted in from the engine side.

It has been a while since I did mine but I remember there being a grommet with a bunch of wires on the drivers side that I slid the wire through. Wasn't the easiest thing in the world. Ill check later today.

Not sure if you completed your install yet but there is a good amount of room under the floor if you cut the foam...

Question, why not just get a kicker hideaway and just use some quick disconnect(s) for easy removal.

Not sure who this is directed at, but my answer would be that I personally don't like those all in one enclosures.

With a seperate sub and amp I can build a box for whatever frequency range I want and make it to fit my car. Plus I can use my amp on whatever sub I want in case I ever decide I want something different.

Basically my options are open to whatever changes I might want to make down the road for far less money than replacing an all-in-one. I could buy another JL 10w3 for the cost of that all-in-one and in car audio you definitely get what you pay for

I got you, I was just suggesting the all-in-one as a space saver.

Could you use anchors to mount amp to foam? Weight would be a limitation tho

I suppose you could make a bracket using the foam as support. It would be kind of difficult since the bracket for the amp needs to be between the two foam sections.

I know my amp isn't really in a pretty amp rack but nobody ever sees it. More of a function>form install.

Some prefer to take sections of the foam out for heavier-duty car stereo setups. I would consider it if I ever go with a 4 channel for door speakers.
