2004 ION Red Line
Default K&N CAI: Odd air-sucking sound at high RPM's

Hi Saturnfans,

Long time since I've posted, but glad to see the forums are still here.

I just had the K&N cold air intake installed on my 2004 ION RL and it feels like it's a bit quicker. I didn't expect miracles, and maybe it's only psychological, but I'm generally pleased with it.

However, one thing I've noticed is that it makes a strange "whizzzzing" sort of air-sucking sound at high RPM's. I'm not sure if this is normal, or if there is a leak where the air intake pipe is clamped, or if there is some other problem with the installation. It's a bit hard to inspect, given how crowded the engine compartment is.

I have searched the forums and seen other posters talk about the noise increase at high RPM's, but not much description of exactly what it sounds like. I just assumed it would be the same as before, but louder.

Have any of you with the K&N CAI heard something similar? Is this normal?

Regards,
SilverION

Increased airflow means increased airsound. Do check to see if the filter fits and the filter cover is in place and tight.

They sell some kinda "K&N Drycharge" wich covers the air filter. Might actually help to muffle some of the sound from the intake, as well will keep some of the moisture from entering.....

Cheers!
