Default 350,000 and Counting

Rolled over the 350,000 mark this weekend... . Got nearly 38mpg with mostly highway driving, which I think is pretty decent considering wear and tear on unit. Celebrated with another oil change!

Getting to point where $$$ has started to work against rationalizing major repairs going forward. Would be hard pressed to justify spending much over $3-400 on what is basically a $500 vehicle.

Saturn SL was an incredible vehicle - never expected more than 100k when I bought it in '02.

Congrats on the milestone.

It might be a $500 car which makes any cost of repair hard to justify however if you replaced it the cost is going to be much higher and is still going to need repairs at some point.

I had folks telling me the same thing at 415k when the clutch was failing and the engine was getting noisy. They thought I was insane for spending about $2k for a complete engine rebuild, clutch, radiator, all new hoses, axle seals, etc. 300,000 miles later it seemed like a good investment. I did loose a head gasket recently however I spent about $500 fixing that and then replaced the original downpipe/converter which pushed me to near $700. Just checked my mpg's after the repair and got 38.5mpg driving in St Louis rush hour traffic.

Next expensive investment on it is going to be new tires.
