Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd say hello. I've owned a 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line here in England for the last three years.

Saturn branded vehicles were never officially exported to the UK, though the Saturn Astra, Aura and 2008 Vue were all sold here in Right Hand Drive form badged as the Vauxhall Astra, Vectra and Antara respectively. The Sky was also sold on mainland Europe as the Opel GT, but not here.

A few hundred Saturns have made it across to the UK over the years - most temporarily imported by US Forces personnel. I was inspired to buy mine after seeing a Solstice and a Sky at a car show on one of the local US airbases back in 2009.

At present there are just nine Saturns of all types on the UK's roads (five of these are Skys), plus a couple of Opel GTs so you can probably guess that they create quite a lot of attention. Most people have never heard of the Saturn brand, so the first question I usually get is "what is it?".

The challenges here are converting lighting systems to be UK Road Legal (my Sky was converted when imported new by its first owner) and obtaining parts, though there are a number of companies over here who specialise in importing US cars and parts. I don't mind paying the price to drive something so rare.

Do you ever get asked, "where can I buy one?"

It's always fascinating to me to see where this nameplate ends up. I recall an S-series from somewhere in South America, and another in one of the old Eastern bloc countries, never did find out how they got there as the posters never returned as far as I recall.

People tend to be very keen until they realise the steering wheel is on the left hand side - I don't have a problem with that, but it frightens a lot of folk! Reversing through the drive-thru is one of my favourite ways to cause chaos around here...

Yes, there seem to be quite a few Saturns in mainland Europe where they drive on the American side of the road. If every one could tell a story, eh?
