I've got a 99 SC1 with 190k and the shifter cable that translates the front/back shift motion has lost the inner ring on the end of the cable that connects to the transmission (cable end has a LOT of play because the ring is now 2-3x larger diameter than the peg it's connected to). I bought some replacement cables, but found the grommet problem. My question, could I re-use the grommet off my original cables and seal it up good with some silicon or something? Or are the aftermarket cables so bad that I should just start hunting junk yards?

ok, the grommet seems like an easy issue to resolve. The more pressing question, however, is the quality of the Pioneer cables I have sitting in a box in my living room, does anybody have reviews on them? I've been searching the forum and the internet for a few hours now and cant find any reviews on the aftermarket cables...just a bunch of posts saying, "usually, aftermarket isn't that great, you should pull used cables off of a junk yard car." Have the aftermarket cables remained unreliable?

From what I understand, aftermarket cables will last you a couple years give or take a few months based on usage.
