2004 VUE 3.5L
1999 SC2
Default Aftermarket DVD Player Installed in 20 Minutes

My mother got me (or my kids rater) this DVD player for our Vue for Christmas. It's a nice portable unit with two screens. It installed very simply with velcro straps (included) around the headrests of the front seats. I installed the player on top of the center storage consol with some adhesive velcrow strips (not included). Most of the wires are well hidden in the folds of the seats and under carpeting. It does block the use of the consol, but that thing has proved useless so far, and I doubt I'll miss it. It's not as tight as the systems installed into the headreasts and play out of the dash, but this system is much cheaper and 100% removable in almost no time at all. Now I can enjoy endless miles of tranquil travel while the kids veg out to Spongebob with their indivigual monitors and headphones. I'll post some pics soon.

I saw a DVD set around Christmas time, which sounds very similar to what you described with 2 headrest screens, and a DVD player that kind of hung in the middle from the 2 front seats. $278 was the price. Not bad I was thinking, not really for me, but for kids riding in the back seat. Anyways, just wanted to give my input on the matter.

Can you plug your laptop into it and use it as a monitor?

Default Laptop

I don't think this question was directed at me, but I do use my laptop in my car all the time to watch movies (parked), though it's an older laptop so it doesn't have a DVD player on it. I always download lots of movies from the Internet though, and kids that ride in my car love to watch the movies. A long time ago I bought a 12VDC adapter for my laptop, which really really comes in handy.

I use a map program with my laptop that is hooked to a gps----Shows you where you are at and gives you directions on how to get where you want to go.
That said, The laptop is too large to have in the front seat. I am looking for an inexpensive way to hook a remote monitor that I can mount in the dash area for the laptop to hook to.----A touch screen would be wonderful except for the cost.

Has anybody installed onr of those in-dash DVDplayers (the kind that are seperate from the radio)? I thought I heard someone say there is no room (depth wise) for one to fit. I was thinking of getting one of those (Pyle has several for $125-$200), a spereate tuner (with serius satalite radio capability), and a flip down monitor where the map lights currently are.

It has an input in for anything that can communicate via RCA cables.
