Default Wrapping header/manifold?

I was looking through the performance accessories on carparts.com (looking for Oil Press. and Volt gauges) and noticed "Header/Manifold Wrap," a thermal tape you wrap around the header. My first thought was oh, that would help power because it would keep the 'underhood' area cooler.

And then another thought came to me: It would help emissions also, because the heat of the exhaust would stay in the exhaust system, instead of radiating into the engine bay. This saved heat would heat the catalytic converter up faster, improving emissions.

Sound feasible? I'm not saying I'm going to do this now, but when I do my performance engine rebuild in summer 2004 (hopefully), I might try this.

sure. btw you can wrap a 91-92 header while it's on the car if move the a/c compressor out of the way. use ramps or jackstands to lift the car so you can do the bottom.

Speaking of a/c compressor.. I was noticing how close it is to the exhaust manifold in my 95 SL2, and wondering if I will have any issues with header installation?

Yup... and you have to have a shop to WELD the flexpipe to the cat for you. I'd recommand you replace the flexpipe first before you weld it in.

you have to remove the serpentine belt and unbolt the bracket from the block and move the a/c compressor out of the way before removing and installing the manifold and header.
