Head unit replacement...
OK guys, what is all involved in changing out the head unit in my 04 ION? I have heard from some people that you have to leave the stock unit plugged in somewhere so the anti theft doesn't screw up. Is this true? Is there some kind of harness I can buy to bypass the anti theft?

I believe Crutchfield has the appropriate harness and dash kit now. When I changed mine out, the only harness anyone around here had, was the wrong one. So I ended up hard wiring it ...
My anti-theft is perfectly fine, I've never had any problems with it either. |

scoche has a harness that they say works for the ion, i believe it is the gm 4 harness, 2000+ I think it is http://www.scosche.com/scosche/

I had to hard wire mine but did not have to leave the factory unit in. This was probably the most easy install I have done

the answer3, actually I was at a local well known stereo shop, and they were ABOUT to sell me that harness, but they realized it won't work, and the correct one is specific for 04 ion's. So I am going to wait for them to get that one.

And the Onstar thing is a myth - there is a controller box to allow Onstar to operate properly after a head unit replacement that is available.

go to autozone and get the wiring harness that looks like the plug in the car, it works, thats what i did... i am going to autozone tomm. if i remember i will get the number for u
