2002 SC2
Default 2002 SC2 power port

Hello All:
A few years back I smelled an electrical burning smell in the passenger compartment of my 2002 SC2. I checked underneath the dash and found that a wire from the power port(cigarette) lighter was burned. A previous owner had installed a wire from this port to the junction block. I removed the wire. Now I feel I need this electrical port as insurance to plug in a tire pump in case of a flat tire or to recharge a cell phone.
Can anyone tell me how exactly to supply power to this port? What guage wire, where to connect into the junction block etc. Was there a special original wire harness I can get to solve this? Thanks to all.

It's recommended to run a fused wire from the UHJB positive post through the firewall and tap a switched circuit to use a relay harness.

Look at post 8 of this thread to see how it is all mapped out .....

Just in confirmation....

I ran a laptop PC off the cigar lighter in my '97SW for quite a while.
As OldNuc pointed out, the OEM arrangement is only designed for
a short burst of power. I removed & tightened the 'connector' at least
once, and concluded that if I were to use the lighter as a power point,
that a fused connection to the UHJB (via firewall grommet) would be
necessary.

I later bought for $8-ish a power point accessory that had a superior
connection... but i never used it, in favor of wifi router at my apartment.
