Dizzy Pushrod wont go into the pedal.

Hello all,
I ran into a problem when changing out my pedal and master cylinder clutch on my Saturn ion. The push rod won't go into the pedal or that is what I believe. when I look at the parts I replaced they click into place and take some force to take apart. The new ones do not. Have a look

Does anyone have some wisdom they can share to make it a little easier for the two-part to combine or do I just have to force them?
