hi all, thanks in advance for your help.
i am changing a motor in a 2002 L100, 2.2 liter, dual overhead cam, automatic. have EVERYthing unhooked, all wiring harnesses, vac/gas lines, starter out, power-steering, AC compressor, motor mount, even the seven bolts holding the block to the transmission housing. still can't get it separated from from the transmission. the motor with move about 1/4-1/2 inch toward the passenger's side (away from transmission) but thats it. any ideas? thanks again, Chris

yes, we removed the flywheel to torque converter bolts. we found three bolts, are there more?

I dont recall the bolt count but if you got them all you should be able to take a screwdriver and move the torque converter with the engine flywheel remaining fixed.

from looking at the flywheel on the motor we are going to put in, it looks like there is only three places where there is places/marks for three flywheel to torque converter bolts. will try the screwdriver between the flywheel and converter. you do mean a little, gentle, nudge/pry between the flywheel and converter don't you?

where is the (item 26 in the instructions provided above) transmission nose bracket?

Once the converter bolts are removes the converter will turn with a slight nudge.

This step is needed to align the bolt holes when putting the new motor in but can be used to verify the flywheel is seperated from the converter when removing an engine from an automatic transmission..

Based on your inspection of the new motor flywheel, it sounds like this may not be your problem.

sounds like you have something seized together from time and it just needs a little man handling to get it apart.

If the engine is moving a 1/4 to 1/2 away from the transmission then everything is disconnected. What you are experiencing may be a siezed into the crank converter center noise piece. If the torque converter will not push into the transmission with a push then this is likely the problem.
You need to be able to get the converter away from the flex plate.

got the motor changed. the trick was to disconnect the transmission nose bracket. where is that you might ask, i know i asked. it is on the bottom front timing chain end of the block sorta between the block and the transmission. has to be removed from underneath and we missed it because we were not working with a lift. once those two bolts were removed the engine just about jumped out of the car.

anyone know where i might post a few parts?
