Our 2001 SL1 MT (10th anniversary clone,430K km) is end of life based on undercarriage rot through and I think I've found a 2000 SL1 MT that is solid but has needs polymer panels and such replaced. I'm thinking of using the 01 for parts as it is the same colour. I'll move over all the 10th Anniversary goodies too. The end result will be a sunroof upgrade and 280K km less mileage.
The 2000 is only optioned with a sunroof if you can believe it. No cruise, no air no other options. I'd like to move the cruise control module over and avoid the BCM programming business with the dealer at $120. Will the 2001 BCM be compatible with the 2000?

If I'm not mistaken, mileage and VIN are in the bcm so you're speedo will probably increment to the higher mileage. Registration might be a problem as the windshield and other locations of VIN won't match bcm VIN. GM should be able to answer questions whether or not VIN can be altered on BCMs.

My 99 SL2 VIN in the PCM doesn't match what's plated on the car. This hasn't created any issues for me. If you recall I moved and engine over from a parts car including the wiring harness and the PCM (auto to manual conversion). The work was done before it was registered.
I hadn't thought of the mileage thing; I don't see that as an issue either as I don't intend to ever sell the car. Drive it till it's done! Good points though!

The VIN can be rewritten by reflashing the entire mess. Dealer will want a hour of labor and probably not know how to do it right the first time.

The 2 connector BCMs are compatible and the 3 connector BCMs are compatible but a connector count mismatch is likely incompatible without moving the wiring harness as well to get the connector match. Security relearn will marry it all up as long as you only move a single secured device at a time between security relearns.

According to AllData & GM's ESI they both have 3 connector BCM's, but the '01 has 2 brown and a blue while the '00 has a blue, purple and brown.
Seems easier to just have a Tech II or equivalent on hand. It's simpler than swapping BCM's and if the remarry process goes wrong you'll have to have the Tech II to fix it anyway. |

You must have the wiring diagram and the build date of the 00 model is critical. If the connector wiring is different then they are incompatible.
