I searched the forums first before posting.
I got a call from my friend who broke the "click" thing where the driver's side seat belts clicks into. It is not usable. I looked at my 97 SL2 and it looks like the seat needs to come out to replace the unit. Does the seat need to come out of the 95 SL2? Also, if anybody knows, how much for the new seat belt click assembly. And is this a part to buy new or salvage yard? Thanks |

seat must come out as it's attached to it. I will have one from a 97 sl2 in a week or so if you decide you can wait that long. if it works...

The belt retainor (buckle) is attached to the FLOOR of the car NOT the seat. Sort of a mute point however, as to access the inside torx bolt to change it, you'll have to remove the seat anyway. I have never seen one of these actually fail...they are usually just gummed up (spray oil) or contaminated and jammed (pennies or dimes being the most common foriegn object I've found)

All years seat belt latchs (Saturn S-series), the one on the inside/middle of the car are attached to the seat. The bolt goes into the lower seat frame work and can be a bugger to get loose but it will eventually come off. As others have already said the seat will need to come out. I would not have a big prroblem getting one from a wrecking yard as long as the car looks in good shape, well looked after and not hit hard. One that has died from natural causes rather than a violent and bloody death would be best.
There have been changes over the years in the shoulder belts but I am not sure if there were any changes in the buckles. Try to keep to the same year.

We finished replacing the seat belt release. The problem that we ran into was the torx bolt removal. Did not have the 6 point style so off to Sears to buy a set for $19.99. It is an E10 size.
Once off the bolt holding the seat belt was hard to get off. That is an 18mm size for future reference. It is an easy job for DIYer. The seat belt assembly was $20 used. Funny thing.....The 95 SL2 has a build date of 3/95. The seat belt buckle we removed had a manufacture date of 9/95. I forgot the day. It was made by Allied. It must of been replaced once by the first owner. |
