I just bought a 98 SAturn SC2 with a 1.9L DOHC. the motor came to me without a cylinder head attached!! how do i line up the camshafts and cranks so that the engine runs in time correctly¿?¿?¿ Also does anyone have any advice on increasing airflow to the cylinders? thanks

Search the threads as there are enough pictures for help with timing a dohc. As to improving airflow, there won't be any more improvement unless you have lots of money; the dohc means four valves per cylinder, the best you can have minus the turbo or NOS set-up. Saturns aren't base level race engines. These are cars for the daily drive. Anything you spend money on to improve on power will be little with more money spent on few gains that are mostly seat of the pants guesses and not done on a dyno to tell all.

With the chain off and the cam Journal bolts backed off till all valves are closed you turn the crank to the 9:00 position with #1 just passing TDC. This is where it should have been positioned when the chain was removed. If not you may already have a bent valve in that engine. If you PM me I will get you the full procedure. |
