1997 SL2
Default Cylinder 4 misfire

Hi everyone,

New to the Saturn forum but I am having an issue. Preliminary information, the car is a 97 SL2 auto with 255,000 miles. I have had it for the past 3 years and do the majority of the work on it. Here is the issue:

I was driving the car on the highway and noticed it didn't have much pick up. It was very sluggish on the hills (doing 75 at the bottom and about 60-65 by the time I got to the top) and the check engine light was on. I didn't think much of it at the time because I had a couple guys in the car until I got off the highway. Once I stopped it started to stumble (bounced around between 500-800rpm, almost died out). Then when I got home and put the car in park it revved up to about 2300rpm.

The car only stumbles in gear (no stumble in neutral or park). I took it to autozone and had them check the light. It gave me 2 EGR flow insufficient readings and 1 cylinder 4 misfire reading. I replaced the EGR valve with a brand new one. Now I have a more power but still the stumble and check engine light are on. I pulled my plug on cylinder 4 and it was wet (with gas I'm pretty sure).

So I'm thinking I have a leaking injector on cylinder 4, anyone else agree or disagree? And if this is the case how tough is this going to be to replace? Thanks in advance.

insufficient flow - you likely need to clean the EGR passages.

the plug is probably wet with gas because it's not firing, doubt the injector is leaking. the 4th cylinder is closest to the EGR valve, it'll have issues when there is an EGR malfunction.
