Either on the lower B-Pillar where it belongs, or on the edge of the dash where morons put it. AllData is less than clear about it for '99. It could be covered by a rubber bumper and not look like a switch, or it could just be a plasti-rubber bellows looking thing.

The '99 has the little suicide door. Interesting question, where would it go?

Just a guess on my part but some common sense and engineering design would put the door switch near the hinged side.

I have been all over the door opening.. It is not on the side of the dash like a 2001 or 2002. I let it chime as I went all around the door seal. Nothing.
It must be a short stroke switch. The chime will continue with the door closed but not fully latched. It only shuts off after the last 1/2 inch of door travel.

That and finding 2 part numbers for door latch's that say 1999 SC1/SC2 only make it sound like the dome light switch is built into the latch with the optional 3rd door (optional '99-'00, standard '01-'02).

Maybe on the thing that keeps the door from opening too far?

The travel limiter? I thought of that too...
I want to bypass the switch. If I wanted something to nag at me incessantly - I wouldn't have gotten divorced.....

I did find this post by LowSaturn which states it is integrated into the door latch mechanism. He checked his own car. Door jamb switch on 1999 SC@Wow, lots of confusion on this. GM parts listings indicate the dash end panel style switch is correct from 96-02 for all S Series however RichPin's video using his 98 SL2 clearly show it being on the door pillar and it is there on my 99 SL2. I guess the same switch is used for both locations. I thought the dash end panel switch was less beefy.

Fetchitfido gets the cigar for this one... (The guy must get a ton of ' em)..
I found the switch is indeed inside the driver' s door and is actuated by the latch. So - nice thing about it - anytime you are working with the door open and ignition on - you can pop open the latch thus disabling the chime..... Thanks FiF and Trottida.. That would have took me forever to find... ![]()

Well then common sense and engineering decided not to work for one model year. Must be the new guy getting approval to put the door switch inside the door next to the door latch mechanism. Now I wonder if other models and brands do the same.

On my '97 'twas on pillar way far from hinge ... excessive hinge wear
ruined the SW, never worked. I think my 2000 is on end-of-dash. It is less robust, because less relative movement mean less gnashing. Including SW in the hinge is bordering awesome engineering. ............. Not surprised that the coupe would be first to incorporate the updated hinge mod -- a very knowledgeable (operating engineer) explained to me that a downside to the 2-door models, was the increased hinge wear, leading to fitment issues (leaks, wind-noise).
