Finally, ok.
I was actually referring to the studs at the end of the exhaust manifold. The three that go into the catalytic converter. It's number 23 for the stud and 13 for the nut. Link to diagram Link to Stud Ok, so I ended up finding the stud size. It's on the stud link above. Copy and pasted from the site 10X1.5X9.5,10X1.5X26.5. I'm translating that as M10 bolt at 1.5 total length, and 9.5mm at one end and 26.5mm on the other. Correct me if I'm wrong here. Just want to make sure I get the right tap and die. ps, thanks for all the help ![]()

Its been demonstrated from time to time that new members post pics easily without having to post the minimums. What many here presume and confuse two separate issues are posting large file sizes misconstrued as members not meeting minimum post counts. With the majority of pics in megabyte size, the file is too large to host. Simply examining picture file size and resizing to a lower amount well below one megabyte will be accepted. I do this often when a file isn't accepted and resizing to be acceptable.
I don't know if this is just my pc or this site but I did notice today that a few posts I made as well as by others don't show thumbnails in posts ever since the recent server outage when Saturnfans went down last night. A test just now reveals the images I posted in a reply only shows a blank spot but when clicking over the area, the image opens in a new tab on my pc. I think there's a software glitch from last night's outage.............

I misunderstood the 1.5, that is the thread depth, correct? I'm looking at a few kits right now and see they all have 10 x 1.5 in the kits.

10 x 1.5 x 26.5; 10mm shank size, 1.5mm thread pitch, 26.5mm length. Correct me if I'm wrong. The 1.5mm thread pitch is the important as well as shank diameter for selecting the tap. In this case, a bottom tap would be recommended if re-tapping exhaust holes for studs. Bottom taps are blunt nosed to rethread as deep as possible before the tap bottoms. M10 x 1.5? A good way to ensure correct tap size; use the removed stud and place it against the tap to match threads (like placing hands and fingers intermeshed) together - perfect matches will have threads intermesh while incorrect thread matching won't allow perfect meshing. Diameter; place the shank in front of you looking at it sideways/length and place the tap in front to see if diameters match by eye. Perfect tap/shank size will match while oversize and undersize parts will be obvious. Find a store with people that know how to match thread sizes, tap and drill matching. This type of knowledge is basic machine skills not everyone knows. Anyone you know with machine shop skills or a local machine shop? They're the ones that know.

Thanks for the quick lesson!
I never got past the beginners stage of measurements, one of my real weaknesses when I'm working on projects. There's someone at work that has a great deal of knowledge on this stuff, I'm sure he can help me. I'll report back when I get it roadworthy.

I'm sorry to reawaken this thread, i realize it's been 8 years. My L100 has the exact same issues as yours did, and it had sat for awhile before me acquiring. I did the same the same fixes to it as you did to yours with no success. Did the new cat take care of your car? If not, did you find the fix to it? Thank you in advance! |
