Default Spark plug wire keepers

My 2002 SC2s has the retainers that lock the plug wires to the coils and engine.l

I take them off and leave them off. ( replace coil bolt wirh shorter one)

Has anyone ever actually had a plug wire fall off?

I haven't.

I think some engineer was worried about his job - so he created a problem - and surprise, surprise - he also had the remedy.........

Come to think of it - I DID have a plug wire fall off once.

On a R/C airplane I built. A 42 inch wingspan biplane with a Quadra 42 cc gas engine (basically a chainsaw engine)

It was literally 10 times the needed power. ( or more).

Somewhere I have a VHS tape showing me doing a deadcstick landing with this monstrosity. It had the glide ratio of a brick.

The plug wire fell off due to the extreme vibration...

I always thought they were just to make things neater under the hood. I'm all for making things neater if I can.

I think perhaps we are talking different bits.....

The locks are at wire' s ends - and do nothing to neaten things up. They affix the spark plug end to the valve cover bolts and the coil end to the coil mount bolts...
