The CVT (also known as VTi on the VUE) was not available in 2007 on a VUE. At some point in 2004 or 2005, Saturn went to a proper geared automatic transmission for the VUE. Not sure if they kept the cvt on the Ion or not.

But a 2007 auto "should" work in the 2003. You'd probably need everything that goes along with it- BCM (body control module), wire harness and....... (because I really don't know for sure).
...
Not a Saturn.

Pretty sure the CVT was teameds with the Ecotec till the end of the '05 run.
Correct me if I'm wrong... I wanted an '04 or '05 but could not avoid the CVT unless I went with the V6.

The dealer said the CVT had about a dozen modifications & upgrades till Saturn gave up on it... also said the CVT was only available in the Ion sports sedan (one with the small rear door), & the sedan has a regular 4 speed tranny... correct?

My 05' 2.2 has a 4 speed automatic. The VTi disappeared late in the 05' model year. A swap from a VTi to the "conventional" 4 speed automatic will be prohibitively difficult and expensive. YES, it WILL "bolt right up" but you will also need a plethora of electronics, wiring harnesses etc...
