Default check engine light and coolant level light stuck on

I was having issues with erratic idle bucking and cooling fan not coming on. I read some other threads that suggested changing TPS which I did to no avail. So I changed the ECTS and Idle settled down to normal but the engine check light and coolant level light came on solid and wont go off. The bucking thing is still going on. Still cant tell if fan comes on since weather is cooler now.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

what codes are you getting? search for paper clip to learn how to read codes from your car -- seriously.

If this is anything like OBD-2 (where if the ECTS is not present the SES and hot/low coolant lamps stay on all time time, bonus points if the gauge pegs to the 1/2 line all the time), I would start with the ECTS connector wiring. Check for corrosion, loose/broken connections, etc...

Was the SES blinking for the codes or did the coolant light get involved too? SES blinking means engine codes; coolant light blinking means transaxle codes. Either way..

code 14:
engine: Engine coolant temp. circuit. Temp. out of range high (most likely source of your SES+coolant lamp on 100% of the time; so it IS like OBD-2 vehicles...)
transaxle: Line pressure low (1993 & 1994 vehicles)

code 26:
engine: Quad Driver output fault
transaxle: TCC stuck on

code 32:
engine: EGR system fault
transaxle: Transaxle temperature circuit grounded (hot)

Diagnostic Codes
11. Transaxle Codes present
12. Diagnostic System Check
13. Oxygen sensor, circuit open or not ready
14. CTS circuit, out of range high
15. CTS circuit, out of range low
17. PCM fault, pullup resistor
19. 6x signal fault, no 6x signal between reference pulses
21. TPS circuit, out of range high
22. TPS circuit, out of range low
23. ATS circuit, out range low
24. VSS circuit, no signal
25. ATS circuit, out or range high
26. Quad Driver output fault
32. EGR system fault
33. MAP sensor circuit, out of range high
34. MAP sensor circuit, out of range low
35. IAC valve, rpm out of range
41A EST circuit open
41B EST circuit shorted
42A Bypass circuit grounded
42B Bypass circuit open
42C Bypass circuit shorted
41. EST bypass, open or shorted
42. EST bypass, open or shorted
43. ECS (knock sensor) circuit open or shorted
44. Oxygen sensor indicates system lean
45. Oxygen sensor indicates system rich
46. Power steering pressure switch circuit, open
49. Idle rpm out of limit high (vacuum leak)
51. PCM memory error
55. A/D converter error in PCM
81. ABS message fault (1993 vehicles with TCS)
82 PCM internal communication fault

The 32 EGR is easy enough. You can try cleaning it (search YouTube for RichPin Saturn EGR video) and you should get a step-by-step cleaning procedure. Worse comes to worse and it's really hosed, then it's an easy change, but fairly expensive @ about $100 at local parts store (maybe cheaper at Rock Auto, though).

I'll let someone else comment on the other codes. I'd have to google Quad Driver Output Fault... never even heard of that one.

"Temp. out of range high" what exactly does that mean?

Make sure you got an ECTS and not a gauge sender. A gauge sender has the two terminals ganged together, which, when mistakenly commissioned as an ECTS, puts zero resistance between the terminals going to the PCM, which translates to an out-of-range high temperature.

Either that or the connector is fouled, and is shorting between the two terminals.

BTW, this must be an automatic car, right? The coolant light goes on STEADY when the PCM sees a disparity between the engine temp and the tranny temp (automatic only).

I'm guessing the "?" key on your keyboard is on the fritz, and that there's a question in there ^^^^^ somewhere. There's a very subtle difference between the connectors of the two sensors; it's supposed to keep you from plugging the wrong wiring connector into the wrong sender/sensor. But you'd never know it just looking at it, and the "interlock" doesn't really work; it's easy to plug the wrong one in. Best option would be to go by part number.

Well all the work is done car runs great! Thanks to all for your suggestions
and tips. I couldn't have done it without all the input. Recap I replaced ECTS to cure RPM issues and fan not coming on when hot. Replaced EGR solenoid - cured
the low RPM stall and engine light and error codes. Replaced EGR valve - cured the mid range bucking.

Thanks to all
and Happy Holidays
