Question Need tips on a 2000 SL2 Front Brake job

I am getting ready to replace the pads and rotors on my 2000 SL2. They already have 60000 miles on them and are really worn down. Are there any special tools i will need? I am just not sure how to remove the rotors? Also, can i just use a C clamp to compress the caliper piston?? thanks in advance!

Nick

Also has anyone used autozone brake pads or rotors or KVR carbon Fibre brake pads?? thanks!

14mm takes the calipers off of the mounts. 18mm takes the caliper mount bolts off, reinstall with loctite blue. The caliper piston can be pushed back in with a c-clamp or a pair of large water pump pliers. Clean the rust from the mounts where the pads go on and use a special brake lube to lubricate the caliper slide pins. Don't use grease, the rubber parts don't like it.

it's fairly easy with a chilton's manual in hand. no special tools. a c-clamp works on the front pistons. use silcone to lube the guide pin and lock pin and the clips after you clean everything with brake cleaner.

I've used Autozone pads and rotors on most of my cars, and I've always liked them. I like the carbon metallic pads, but they are meant for aggressive driving. If you rarely get on the brakes hard, or you 'ride' the brakes with light pressure, the carbon metallics will squeal.
