Well i was working on a SIMPLE intake, basically just adding a high flow air filter and removing the intake filter box. Well the part i purchased from the speed shop to connect the stock intake to the filter (it was a 60% bend) would not fit properly, it kept falling off. Well i went to home depot and purchased a universal dryer vent elbow as seen on the end of this tube http://www.applianceblog.com/archives/DryerVkit.jpg it spins along those angled ribs you see and adjusts to many angles. Well it worked perfectly in a pinch (since i did not want to put the box BACK on) it actually sounds pretty good too.. ill post a pic soon. its not a permanent solution but damn if it fit perfectly...

LOL i know its bad.. but it works... im buying some mandrel bens this weekend.. i found a place in my area.. and they match their ebay prices localy so i dont have to pay shipping..

thats a good idea... maybe u can go in and ask for an aluminum pipe, and measure how long it needs to be from end to end to fit in the car... and ask them to put opposing 90deg bends on both ends

that way its all very smooth with no rough edges inside, and no welding required... then just set it in the car to see how it fits and cut the ends as needed so it fits best.

I also forget the part number, but a K&N for a 1980-1983 BMW 320i will clamp
onto the throttle body with no problem. You can see this setup on the

The filter I mentioned is a cylinder with a plastic end cap. I drilled a
small hole in it and stuck the sensor inside. Needed to splice in some
wires to reach to the sensor's new location, but that's easy.

In my previous 96 SL2, I used OBD-II to my advantage to monitor the air temp
of various intake configurations. With a typical Powerstack setup, once the
engine bay heats up, the air doesn't cool off again once you start moving.
But with the "shorty" intake, you *do* get cool air after you're moving. My
theory is that air flows underneath the car and then up between the motor
and the firewall. I removed the rubber weatherstripping at rear of the
engine bay to encourage this behavior.

$30 for a filter vs. $150 for a Powerstack, and it works better, too.
