The door handles are held in by a spring clip. It is best removed by using a door handle clip removing tool. If not this then a bunch of poking and proding in behind/under the handle with a small screw driver or hooked pick should allow you to get the clip out and the handle off.

The tool is in the $5-$10 range, A universal tool you can buy at almost any patrs store. Even if you only use it once, it's worth it from an aggravation standpoint

A free "tool" to remove the door handles is a rag. Just slide it between the handle and the door and keep on running it back and forth at a bunch of angles. Eventually it will catch the pin, sometime sooner rather than later, but it does work for free.
