Default Mysterious Coolant Leak Near Resevoir Bottle

I am getting a leak from the coolant resevoir bottle. My check coolant light came on and I looked under the hood and it appears that all the main hoses (upper and lower rad hoses) are dry. Under the coolant bottle is a wet area. I haven't taken it apart yet, but I suspect the bottle is the problem or the coolant level sensor is leaking.

Has anyone had this happen before?

Thanks

If you have an s-car, I have seen a few bottles that were the culprit. Have not seen on any other models.

Yes, mine did the same thing.

The sensor seal at the bottom of the tank is leaking and causing the coolant light to go off. As tank is over 10 years old, I replaced it with a new one.

It was the o-ring on the coolant level sensor that was bad. When I pulled the connector off, the o-ring literally fell apart in my hands. Got a new bottle off a 2000 with only 55K on it for $5. Problem SOLVED!

Why didn't you just replace the O-ring?

Seems like a lot of hassle to go to a junkyard and source a $5 part, when you can pick up a whole package of O-rings for practically the same price at any auto parts store. (Not talking money here, just time. Simply curious.)

I go there just to see what I can find. Plus this bottle is a lot cleaner

I can understand that perspective.
