Default SOHC cylinder head year to year interchange

here's a good one for you saturnfans people i have a SL1 98 SOHC 5 sp man car i will need a new cylinder head for my engine. Now my question is what years the cyl head on these cars are interchangable are the 91 to 98 heads all compatible or is it only the 95 to 98 year that can be swaped in other words can i bolt a 91 cyl head to a 98 engine block including intake and exhaust manifold or do i absolutely need a 95 head to fill the deal, by the way is there any differences in the SOHC head design from 91 to 98 i know that 99 and 00 to 02 are different in some way

any feedback appreciated

95 to 99 is it. 91-94 are not cut for injectors. You can make others work but why bother as good SOHC heads are easy to find. Do not buy a rebuilt off of eBay.

SOHC you would (should?) need 95-99 IIRC. The head changed slightly with MPFI in 1995 to accommodate the injectors. Older heads may work, but the gasket and manifolds lining up would be my worry. 00+ shouldn't match up with the exhaust manifold.

Edit: The living wiki agrees so I must be correct.

Say, I have the opposite issue. I have a '94 that probably needs a head.

I see on EBAY, they have rebuilt ones for under $200, but are '95+.

Even if I DON"T need the injector bosses, will these heads still bolt up, and seal with my manifolds?

Also, I see there is warning against EBAY heads.. Why?

I have 3 broken rockers on mine, piston slapped the intake valves.

At this point, I don't know where to get the rockers, and it seems easier to find 95+ heads, than older.

Recommendations?

Because the quality of eBay rebuilts is poor. Look for a used head from a 91-94 cheap and cart it off to the rebuilder. You can probably buy a decent used head from here that would be in good enough condition to just use as is or get a rebuilder core. http://www.saturnautosalvage.com/ I think you can get the later 95+ head to seal to the early intake but am not sure. Call that JY it will be cheaper and quicker.
