97 SC2 Man. Trans. oil seals
The differential pin bit a hole in the transmission so we are changing it out for one from the scrap yard. There are 3 output shaft seals, one large one for the driver's side drive shaft, one smaller one for the intermediate shaft and another small one for the passenger side drive shaft. I can install the smaller seals but can't find anything to drive the larger one in square. It is about 3" in diameter and domed. Whatever the driver is it must contact the seal rim only because the dome shape. Think we could get by without changing the seals? Would appreciate any hints here.

With out the correct seal installing tool it is harder to install the seals. The best way to do it is a hammer and something like a brass drift or punch. Carefully tap around the edge of the seal to as evenly as possible drive the seal into place.

I cut a hole in a piece of 1x4 wood. Then trimmed around half the diameter of the hole to fit. Then while I held the 1x4 and new seal in place under the car an assistant hammered on a 2x4 that extended out past the fender. It went right in!

Here is a picture of my home made seal install tool. This one is for driving the seal into the passenger side of a Saturn standard 5 speed transmission. The diameter of the hole is 2 1/8". If you make one, it's best to measure your seal to find out what size is needed.
