Default the old remove manual window crank trick

hi my old friend pierrot and other sages for whom my respect is immense- need to replace the two radio speakers in the lower front doors of my 01 L 100. they have both died after 21 years of use and only the tweeters still sound. originals are no longer available. bought 6.5 inch kenwoods ready. first need to remove window crank. sounded like a simple job . viewed you tube videos and my saturn haynes manual. they say to get a shop towel between the panel and the long end of the handle and work it back and forth to pop out the snap clip. doesnt seem to work despite various tries. kindly request you help me particularly if you have done this successfully on this model. appreciate it. bob fisher

hi sages- first step is to remove the window crank handle before you try to remove the door panel. have used the shop towel trick . not successful. have tried to view the snap clip to grab it with a small needle nose or pick. cannot see any despite pushing in the panel. can see the splined axle. this must be a unique setup to the L100 front door. you tube videos and haynes manual make it sound easy, but it isnt. if anybody here has actual experience removing this crank from the turn axle on an L 100 i would appreciate you telling me. thanks tons bob f

They make a tool for that. Not specific to Saturns. I believe Lisle makes one.

hi irbraner- nice to hear from you again. read your note . have you used that lisle tool on your saturn L series front door window crank? cant see a clip on mine. im looking inside the end of the crank where the clip should be. even with pressing the panel in and away from the handle i cant see it. wondering if this model has a different style. please let me know if im doing something wrong. have tried the shop rag trick a few times and it doesnt catch on any prongs . thanks bob f

Hi Bob, look at this link. This is what the clips look like on the window handle.

hi lw300- i looked closely at your picture of the clips and will re view the area behind the hub end(not the knob end of the crank handle. one note from a mkkrinkle on the forum about this said there was no clip on this model 2001 L 100, but rather a pin secured the handle to the splined shaft and it had to be knocked out . will check this and get back to you. this is a large pain in the keaster causing issuance of the most foul adjectives. thanks bob f
