Default Can't get Emissions Test due to Stored OBD-II Code

My wife just went to get the VA emissions test done and they couldn't hook in to the OBD becasue of a failed code.

I cleared the suspect thermostat code P00128 that was stored this past winter (the SES light later went out by itself) and I'll bring the Vue back for the retest."

Has anyone heard of this before?

Depends on the state. The emission testers these days can access codes. If a code is stored some states won't allow your car to pass. One other thing. All late model vehicles perform tests on cetain emission items. The emission testing equipment look at these tests for pass/fail. When you clear codes these tests revert to "not run". If you take your car back before the tests are run you will fail again.Make sure you take the car for a couple good drives. some of the tests run during city type driving. Others run highway driving. Some hot some cold. So, make sure you take it on a good drive on regular roads AND a good highway drive

When diagnostic trouble codes are cleared on vehicles equipped with OBD-II emissions control systems (just about all vehicles manufactured after 1996) the "readiness monitors" are cleared as well. The readiness monitors are diagnostic routines that the vehicles computer performs as you drive. It can take up to 100 miles of driving under various conditions for all of the readiness montiors to complete their cycle.

What probably happened at the smog inspection station was that the readiness monitors failed that portion of the test which means that the
vehicle fails the entire smog inspection. The motivation for failing the
vehicle with incomplete readiness monitors is to prevent people from
simply clearing diagnostic trouble codes immediately prior to the smog
inspection.

Most of the generic low cost OBDII readers have a readiness monitor mode that can check to see you if a vehicle is ready to undergo an emmissions test. I know this feature is available on a ~$100.00 Actron OBDII tool I own.
