sohc = 100hp

dohc = 124hp
+ 1000 more rpm's

you can keep your sohc tranny and you'll still get around the same mpg.

you can also swap over most of the stuff you have on your engine now as well.
when i did the swap i took everything off my sohc and put it on the dohc.
ignition coils
strut bar
sms TB
warm air intake

The instant 24HP boost is more power than you can make with a full bolton SOHC. There is no real reason to mod a SOHC, even the DOHC swap is a bit pointless. DOHC cars are nearly as cheap and have other selling points that the SOHC cars lack.

Taking a SOHC to full DOHC specs would cost as much or more than selling the SOHC and buying a DOHC for most folks. Sell the SOHC to a highschool or college kid that needs cheap transportation and find a DOHC.

if you want something fast you never should sell your saturn just to buy another saturn

but looking at his car, it looks like he wants to make HIS perticular saturn a little faster...

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2913306

he says i his other option is puting a turbo ob the sohc engine.

id say do the swap 1st and if you still want more power.... turbo the dohc or just go on the bottle

If you want something fast you should get anything but a Saturn.

But if you want a fast Saturn start with a DOHC.

The DOHC is a 1.9, just like the SOHC. It just has 2 cams and 4 valves per cylinder, unlike the 2 valve SOHC.

You can swap to a completely different engine, but the work required is rather large. People have put several different engines in S-cars, but it isn't easy. Most swaps sacrafice handling and certainly MPG.

Again my feelings are that you start over with a DOHC. With the amount you've spent you could have bought a DOHC and N2O kit and made a pretty fast car. But if you want a fast car you're best of to not base the car on a Saturn S-car.

Sure you can do it, but you would probably be matched power wise by a someone who did a lot less work on a slightly better car.

You can beat a DOHC with a turboed SOHC, but would still lose once you found a corner.

Boosting your SOHC is a waste of time. Spend the little bit and swap the head/engine and boost the DOHC. I am willing to bet that my DOHC swapped SC1 on spray would pull your SOHC w/ turbo (and with alot less time and money invested)

Build from the DOHC, it's a better place to start from, period.

Wrench Re: Thiking about DOHC swap

swap the entire car not only do you get the DOHC, you get the wheels, seats, suspension, and the rest of the good stuff that comes with it. my old 92 SC made 120 hp at the wheels. no boost required
