2004 VUE Red Line
Default Surfboard suggestions

I am looking for some input on the best method to carry around an 8' surfboard on our '04 VUE. My goal is to put it up on the roof but I have no factory roof rack installed at all.

Considerations:
1) I have seen some cases where folks say the quality, installation, and removal of the factory rack is lacking. Anyone put on their own after-market or some thing else up there?

2) Cost is a concern as well as easy removal. We are looking for an 'occasional' roof-rack solution but something that can handle hwy speeds and long treks when installed properly.

I am a DIY by nature but would take any suggestions of an after-market solution that may require an expert. I am just not sure where to go with this. I found this so far:

Anyone carry a board on top? Any suggestions?

Thanks for any ideas or leads.

I thought about this a little more and now I am thinking that the pass-through window/door straps would hinder the side impact airbags. {sigh}

Never carried a board, a canoe and kayak from time to time,
here they have some nice racks

nice thing about this one is it will fit almost any vehicle and you can buy adapters for bikes, kayaks, cargo carrier, etc., etc. for future toys and vehicles.
Maybe you can find a dealer in your area.
