Brandon, you have unusually thick skull! Listen to me. You Must NOT make adjustments while the cam locks are installed! Follow the directions I provided over a dozen times and you will finish this repair without fail!

That moron in the video failed to show you how he fixed his own many screwups. You are following a false god! That video was made for view count and it is not sound mechanical advice!

Brandon, you have unusually thick skull! Listen to me. You Must NOT EVER make timing adjustments while the cam locks are installed! Follow the directions I provided over a dozen times and you will finish this repair without fail!

That moron in the video failed to show you how he fixed his own many screwups. That video was made for view count and it is not sound mechanical advice! Case in point, he didn't know the cams would spin when the belt was removed. One cam spun to rest during the video, he paused and jumped right over it as if it was of no significance! He is a fake and he will never explain anything because he is all about pumping out videos for views. He doesn't care whether his videos make sense or the quality of the mechanical advice. Only you believe in him as a false god! Me, I see straight through him at a hack YT channel!

Lastly, the representations of the idlers and tensioner (in manual) you keep displaying are NOT the recommended final positions after you adjust for timing. They are the starting points to first install the belt! You constantly make assumption which is putting a hole in your boat and you have no bilge pump to speak of! Stop taking things out of context, getting stuck in conundrum instead moving on. What you have done in the past will only repeat the same mistakes if you continue this insanity!

Install the belt properly and these problems will be resolved. You don't have to know why, just doit right and stop showing static photos which have no meaning to anyone else but you. For example, the photo of the tensioner is mute because we have no idea where the engine was during the cycle nor do we know if you merely adjusted something to set that mark. IT MEANS nothing! You what would be useful... if you put the top of the engine together and started it while observing the timing belt. Yes, you can start the engine for a brief run with the front of the engine opened up. You will literally freak to see how the belt tensioner oscillates at warp speed even at an idle! All you're micromanagement of timing adjustments with cam locks installed is your issue! Stop it!

BrandonKastning, can you take snapshots after the first engine rotation as suggested when reading tdc? Three snapshots. Then rotate the engine again for the second time reaching tdc and three more snapshots? And a third rotation, reaching tdc for three more snapshots? Note first, second and third rotations and post them.

fdryer,

I would love to; however I am far beyond this. I am about to post 60 pictures.

I have done the following since last post:

1) Completed the run I was in; and it failed.

2) Made 1 more adjustment (changing the tensioner setting to middle prior to the first crankshaft rotation); this also resulted in failure at cam #1 (belt tracking).

Then I decided to Swap Camshaft Sprockets #1 & #2; setup the initial setup with the new belt per FSM and tensioned max torque. I have yet to spin the rotation. I will do that once I am done posting the updates and keying everyone in.

This time I remembered that I struggled with the 37 ft. lbs + 60 degrees + 15 (so it's possible) that I didn't equally torque them.

I only brought them down to 37 ft. lbs each and stopped. I did not have cam #1 problems this time during initial setup.

Here is Gallery A:

This one is for the haters. Cam 1 & 2 have officially full force slammed against valves.

You win and so do I (Always learning with integrity)

You have got to tighten the idlers such that the belt slack is remoted. You haven't hurt anything. The valves can handle a slap. If the engine was running, the engine would be toast. Don't sweat it!

I have explained in much detail how you must hold tension on idlers and/or tensioner if you release it's bolt, then you use the idler wrench to adjust timing... and with the tensioner, you use the Allen wrench to hold tension as you make adjustments and tighten the bolt to lock in the adjustments.

In other words, stop using the cam locks to hold the belt in place! You must hold tension on idlers adjustment while making adjustments and then retighten the it's bolt in order to lock it in place. This makes sense now, until now you have been using the cams locks to freeze the belt and then you gorilla-ed the cam flats to force timing adjustments. Does this make sense to you now?

I think you are making progress!

Here is gallery A of me extracting the Camshaft Cover broken bolt.

Worked! I used a #1 screw extractor kit M5-6 3/16-1/4 bit; broke the 3/16th bit and finished the job with a 5/64th.

I drilled all the way down until I couldn't see the bit anymore before using a rubber mallet to tap the extractor bit in for a nice and clean removal.
