Default 02 Saturn s series gauge cluster

So the cluster says no and won't turn on. However. If I unplug and plug back in the cluster. Wham bam works great. Turn it off, remove key, then turn back on. Works a dream. Let it sit five minutes. Toasted till I either unplug and plug back in or disconnect and reconnect the battery. Wiggling wires does nothing. I tested both grounds on the connector. They ground. Took 12V to each pin that wasn't a ground and nothing would make it jump for joy.

Sounds like the cluster has failed in some random unique way that makes 3rd gens so amazing. I've not seen it cause a fail to start before, even when putting clusters in from other cars the worst that happens is either a CEL or various other idiot lights stay on.

If I'm not mistaken, the S-series models from 2000+ uses a body control module (BCM) to drive the instrument panel cluster (IPC), indicators, gauges and lights. The exceptions are abs and airbag lights; they're driven by their own modules. The bcm may be problem.

I don't know what clusters are going for at junkyards these days. But maybe consider buying another one to isolate the issue. You can quickly tell if its the cluster's problem if another one works just fine. Then at that point you could decide if you want to keep your mileage and repair said cluster.

3rd gens store mileage in the BCM, so they wouldn't even have to worry about it with a junkyard cluster. One of the few nice things that came out of the BCM imo
